It seems natural to us, but historically, it was the opposite; pink was for boys and blue for girls. This change wasn't due to everyone carefully reconsidering their views; most just followed what others thought. It's easier to go with the flow than to challenge popular beliefs. Social behavior is mostly built into our brains, and we don't usually notice it happening. This is thanks to a brain part called the dorsomedial prefrontal cortex (MPFC). One study even found that volunteering weekly can make us as happy as a big pay raise! But here's the catch: our social connections are declining. A survey from 1985 showed most people had deep conversations with three people in six months. By 2004, many reported having none.
